Whiskey Girl, located in the infamous Gaslamp District of downtown San Diego is determined to revamp the reputation of bar food. Whiskey Girl is turning heads with they’re alluring happy hour specials, daily events, 3,500 square foot venue, and courteous staff. This restaurant and fully loaded bar is in the business of making its customers happy.
They offer an extensive menu that will accommodate any of your food cravings. Favorites like: salads, wraps, pizza, burgers, pastas, tacos, and even a kid’s menu. The Whiskey Girl specializes in breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has commodious discounts according to the day of the week. I walked in and was succumbed by the numerous incandescent flat screen TV’s. They were parceled in every nook, blasting the room with high energy from the Monday Night Football game.
I was greeted by the head chef “Chip”; he thoughtfully recommended the lightly battered green bean basket. They had a fresh green center and a memorable light crunch with every indulgence. I couldn’t help but gravitate towards their homemade cheese sticks, cut and prepared fresh daily. I was overwhelmed with the amazing bites of the seasoned golden, crispy outside, and soft oozing, cheesy filling. My next adventure was to try the potato skins, they offered a friendly twist on the traditional dish I had come to know and love. They were filled with a thick, creamy, spinach dip that hugged every part of my mouth, and served with their homemade ranch. Whiskey Girl has perfected their worldly flavors and set the standards of what bar food should be. Adding to my enjoyment of the dining experience were the happy hour prices: Monday thru Friday from 4 to 8pm with half-priced appetizers, $3 wells and drafts, and everyday, $4 Jack & Coke, and $6 Margaritas.
Whiskey Girl has “Kick Ass Karaoke” nights every Friday and Saturday allowing you to sing your heart out guilt free. Whiskey Girl also schedules a different event and drink special every night of the week. They add their own personality to food while still having an infectious environment for any tourist or San Diego local to enjoy.

Pacific Beach is one of San Diego’s most notorious attractions, a melting pot of diverse cultures and college kids alike. Eclectic shops and restaurants grace the streets of PB, so that finding a place that’s unique and innovative isn’t an easy mission. So, I was thankful when I stumbled upon Olde City Grill.
Olde City Grill is turning heads with their authentic Philly-style food, and putting the competition to shame with their 24” pizza pies. That’s not the only thing on their menu to indulge in; try their Philly Cheesesteaks on authentic Amoroso rolls flown in three times a week stuffed with thick American Kobe Beef and all the toppings necessary.
From the moment you walk in, the staff and environment is embracing. Industrial floors line the room, and fun, Philly colloquialisms written in colorful chalk grace the walls. I decided to nurture their happy hour specials: $1.50 Bud Lights and Budweiser’s, as well as $1-off their huge slices of pizza “pie”. Everything on their menu is affordable and guaranteed for freshness. Variety is their niche, proudly serving Hoagies, Grinders, Dumpster Plates, Wings to order by the pound, Gravy Fries, Jalapeno bottle caps, 25 different specialty pizzas and much more. Olde City Grill also prepares salads like their recommended “Beachcomber”. This massive dish isn’t for the faint of heart feeding up to three people; loaded with gorgonzola cheese, candied walnut, apples, cherry tomatoes, bacon, red onion, and hard boiled egg. Oh, and all of their dressings, sides, and sauces are homemade. If that’s not something to write home about, try their “Onion Scoops”, a crunchy onion taste served with a side of cool, spicy homemade wasabi dipping sauce. This place is so inventive they actually have a food challenge named appropriately Fat Bastard. Conquer this 7lb beast of a meal, and you will be $500 richer.
Football and flat screens also add to the experience, and if you don’t feel like going out, Olde City Grill delivers. So, if you’re ever in Pacific Beach and feel like dining Philly style, Olde City Grill is the place to be.

Have an Effin’ Good time, that’s their motto and sentiments over at Effin’s Pub n’ Grill, thoughtfully located near SDSU. The Efiin’s you used to know has gone through cosmetic changes to upgrade its services, prices, and entertainment features. Not only has the venue been upgraded, but the new owners put care and cause into the restaurant showing the immediate the positive changes. The happy hour is almost every hour, having playful specialty prices and discounts to everyday of the week. The new venue invites the regular bar connoisseur with its jukebox touch tunes, secluded photo booth, darts, pool table, and flat screen TV’s. The room is filled with tables that can accommodate up to ten, or more intimate two and four tops. Effin’s attracts the wondering eye with decorated bras hanging from corners and ceiling fans, and actual street paraphernalia.
Their pampered menu and prices are matched with a generous staff and regular animated crowds; wings, fries, chicken tenders, onion rings, salads, corn dogs, and cheesesteaks. I gouged on the El Ranchero; having plump juicy chicken served with sticky provolone cheese, grilled onions, roasted red peppers on top of a indigenous italian hoagie roll. Not a meat eater? Come on Monday for Effin’s two-for-one cheesesteaks and dive into a Veggie Steak. This alternative has breaded eggplant, sharp provolone cheese, roasted red and green peppers, sautéed mushrooms, and grilled onions. Definitely recommended!
Taco Tuesday, it’s among the daily specials serving $1.50 tacos all night. Effin’s offers a five-finger discount every night of the week named the Effin’s Countdown: $5 Jameson shots, $4 Fernet-Branca, $3 Natural Lite Tall Boys, $2 beer of the month. I would responsibly check out the new and improved restaurant/bar, especially on football Sundays, which they open at 9am for your enjoyment.
Their Effin’ Good Happy Hour is Monday thru Friday from 4 to 7pm with $3 drafts, $1-off wells and half-priced appetizers.
