RA Sushi is becoming San Diego’s haven for the highest quality of fresh cut fish, cleverly crafted rolls, and unforgettable menu options.
The Chefs have no problem expressing their versatility of Japanese cuisine. The menu denotes an eclectic style and cooking concepts that attest to RA’s commitment for savvy sushi and refined flavors. RA deserves a standing ovation for their signature specialty rolls- the popular Viva Las Vegas Roll, “RA”llipop, Tunacado, Hot Mess, Crazy Monkey and the Mango Lobster Roll made it to the top of my list.
RA has become a nightly hangout for the sushi snob in all of us. Along with a full dinner menu, RA has a seductive sake, wine, martini, and beer portfolio that keeps us wanting more. There are 25 locations across the U.S bearing the RA name, yet chain and franchise are the last things that come to mind when dining here. The staff is knowledgeable and on point. They help carry the provocative demeanor present throughout RA’s dining room. Harboring the energy of Downtown San Diego, RA aims high with their vamped rocked and roll modern music, luminescent fixtures, and dim lighting. The ambiance is a natural guide to the social atmosphere.
The Happy Hour Menu doesn’t skip a beat, making the work day worthwhile, and hosting specials Monday through Saturday from 3 to 7pm with half-off select Sushi Rolls and Appetizers, $2 Hot Sake, $3 Budweiser, Bud Light, Miller Lite, $4 Well Drinks, $5 Kirin and Kirin Lite, and $6 Sake and Kirin combo. RA has the rights to one of the most elaborate Happy Hour Menus with items that include Lobster Spring Rolls, Pineapple Cheese Wontons, Blue Claw Crab Cakes, Kaisen Ceviche, and their Spicy Yellowtail Roll. Sunday is a special night for us all with RA’s reverse happy hour from 10pm to 12am bringing more drink specials. You can also head down to RA for support of your local Chargers football team by ordering the Bolt Roll, which has crab, spicy tuna, cucumber, shrimp tempura, and yamagobo wrapped in rice and Charger yellow soy paper, topped with Charger blue tempura bits ($2 from every roll is donated to The San Diego Chargers Active Life Charity).
I have been to majority of San Diego’s sushi restaurants and it is tough to think of one that would top RA Sushi!

Lumberyard Tavern and Grill resides in the quaint beachside city of Encinitas. Exposing an energetic, young, family run business, the Lumberyard Tavern is the new perfect neighborhood bar. Focusing on the community, this recent addition to San Diego is coming out with service and specialty dishes worthy of a reputation.
The American style restaurant is spacious, yet comfortable, offering a nesting place for every generation. It shares a perfect balance between social gatherings and family fun. The Lumberyard Tavern holds the roots of a home away from home; an honest impression that makes it impossible not to feel welcomed.
The cuisine satisfies every craving known to our senses. Memorable dishes like the: Irish Nachos (potato chips smothered in white gouda, jalapenos, green onion, sour cream and the option of adding chicken, fresh crab meat, or chili), Flame Grilled Artichoke served with garlic aioli, Seared Sesame Ahi, a Baby Back Rib Stack that will make you melt, and a separate breakfast menu. The Chef perfected unique twists on beloved classic flavors, and the portions are equally gratifying. Check out the Border Burger, a juicy 1/2lb Angus beef patty with melted jack cheese, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, onion, all pressed between a thick soft pretzel bun.

It’s not surprising that Sundays bring in a packed house, offering 12 flat-screen TV’s that surround the restaurant making any seat a perfect view for cheering your team to victory. The Lumberyard Tavern hosts a weekly raffle in which the lucky winner goes home with an official Chargers Jersey - enthusiasts are welcome for the one and only 4x4 Burger Food Challenge, not recommended for the faint hearted. One can always find clarity in the featured beer of the month and The Lumberyard Tavern’s very own impressive Happy Hour. Offered Monday through Friday from 3 to 7pm that features $2 off all Appetizers, $3 Wells, $5 House Martinis, $5 Select Glasses of Wine and special prices on a variety of beers.
Lumberyard Tavern and Grill has an immediate success and outstanding position within the community. I would recommend this restaurant to any local, tourist, and food lovers alike.

Its loamy and romantic atmosphere creates a notion of luxury without feeling any uncomfortable formalities. BLANCA exposes nature at its finest, in the production, cooking techniques, and in the ingredients used throughout the restaurant. The restaurant supports a sustainable plate, believing in the source of the food prepared. Not only are the baked goods and cured meats produced in house, BLANCA also cultivates’ a garden of fresh herbs and vegetables used nightly. Chef Gavin Schmidt reignites a passion for innovative cuisine, and creativity that surpasses his contemporaries.
The drink menu is incomparable; BLANCA infuses all of their own alcohol and spirits creating a new tradition of flavors. The specialty drinks have a uniqueness and raw organic appeal that I guarantee you’ve never tasted before. Indulge in the Ginger Julep, a perfect harmony of Bulleit Bourbon, mint, and their very own house-made sweet ginger soda or a Lavender Pear Spritzer, which is Pear Lavender Vodka, Lemon Simple Syrup, and of course Fresh Pear Juice.
Happy hour is served in the lounge Monday through Thursday from 5:30pm to Close, and Friday and Saturday 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The Happy Hour Menu has price cuts that range from $2 to $4 off appetizing food items, and $2 off cocktails and specialty drinks. The Happy Hour Menu expresses a certain dignity with options like the: Heirloom Wisconsin Black Popcorn with truffle salt, parmesan, and herbs, Fingerling Patas Bravas with garlic aioli; House Made Sausage and Sauerkraut, and a large variety of tapas, savory dishes, and artisanal Pizzetas.
BLANCA surpasses a kind of rare quality we always hope to find in our neighborhood restaurants. A brief romance with food, and a memorable dining experience.
