We may not have New York's Wall Street or LA's Rodeo Drive, but San Diego is home to some of the biggest names in the Celebrity Chef network. San Diego is lucky enough to have attracted Chef Richard Sweeney.
Sweeney was a foodie way before appearing on Season 5 of Bravo's Emmy Award Winning TV Show, Top Chef. Before stardom he was gainfully employed as the Executive Chef of Confidential Restaurant+Loft Downtown. He is a Jersey Boy at heart, but now a San Diego native launched his first restaurant and bar, R-Gang Eatery.
Located in the heart of Hillcrest, Sweeney invites you into his world of collective cozy chic; food that will leave you in good spirits and specialty cocktails that will leave you with naughty intentions. After indulging into his eclectic but familiar plates you immediately feel apart of the gang. He hit the nail on the head, or pinned the tail on the donkey describing his visionary concept as Food & Fun, Refueled. Sweeney went full-throttle throwing intimidation out the window, creating a Five Star Menu sans the sport coat and tie. Hosting contemporary small plates that are meant to share or fill a guest of one, but also experimenting with hearty portions for Brunch and Dinner.
The Brunch is a massive chronicle of its own hosting likeable eats like: French Toast, a thick-cut brioche dipped in cinnamon and egg; or try the Roasted Turkey & Avocado Benny with 2 poached eggs served on a toasted English muffin with a spicy chorizo-chipotle hollandaise.
The Dinner menu is a craftsmanship of sophisticated culinary technique and little quirks that unveil his innate passion for food. Sopressata Mac n Cheese, with smoked gouda, sautéed pieces of Italian Sopressata finished with a toasted butter cracker crumb topping; Build-a-Burger Burger; or try the Grilled Portobello Sandwich, a Marinated Grilled Portobello Mushroom with grilled onion, roasted bell peppers, fresh mozzarella, balsamic spinach, and sliced tomatoes. The Scallop Po' Boy Sandys is a house favorite as well as the slow braised bone-in beef Not-So-Short Ribs.
Whatever your decadent delight may be, order the “Soon to be World Famous” Housemade Tater Tots that come custom three ways: Traditional, Philly Steak, and Duck Fat Fried - synonymous with every child’s dream of comfort food.
Happy Hour is based differently throughout the week. Tuesdays is Tot Tuesday all night and 1/2 off National beers, Winey Wednesdays features 1/2 off Wines by the Glass, Thirsty Thursdays with $5 R-Gang Cocktails, $3 Well drinks, Freaky Friday changes every week with different Food Specialties, and various Drink Specials, and Brunch boasts $10 Bottomless Mimosas and $6 Hot and Spicy Bloody Mary's.
Chef Richard Sweeney expresses his devotion for fine food and originality through the new and much anticipated R-Gang Eatery.

When was the last time you remember having a pre-mixed drink that knocked you off your ass? Lets be honest, probably never is my guess.
Wet Willies located on the corner of 6th and Market is redefining the daily Daiquiri to the dirty Daiquiri. Hosting over 30 machines that craft their own slushy goodness with electric flavor combinations like: Strawberry, Mango, Melon, Green Apple, Piña Colada, Margarita, Chocolate, and many more. It’s the new local retreat from the everyday downtown nightclub and bar. The location is massive without being impersonal, and nothing but good energy greets you at the door. This is a perfect spot to socialize among singles, or have an interactive date with your partner in crime.
Wet Willies has been around since the 1980’s and has 14 locations nationwide. Their statement holds true by having the best frozen Daiquiris in the World. Each frosty favorite packs a punch with at least three shots of 153 Grain alcohol. Playful specialty Daiquiris like the: Call-A-Cab, Attitude Improvement, Monkey Shine and Shock Treatment all add their own character to the Wet Willies legacy. Ladies have just another reason to love Wet Willies, for their signature Naked Willie, a gift of zero grams of sugar and half the calories of a regular go to nightly drink. Take the pre-gaming party to Wet Willies, no longer do you have to chug your neighbor’s liquor to save some cash before the downtown $200 bar tab. Wet Willies doesn’t have a cover charge and $10 will get you any 20oz Daiquiri.
The food is creative and attracts a crowd of its own. Serving items like Fried Mac and Cheese, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, Burgers, Pizzas, and for the more picky palette, Willies has Salads, Gourmet Wraps, and a Daikon Ginger Salad with Seared Ahi that has all the perfect components.
If the impressive prices, memorable food, infectious atmosphere, or convenient location doesn’t make you a loyal patron, the owner will - as in Will Demps. Retired NFL star and successful Entrepreneur, Will Demps opened Wet Willies as a neighborhood bar. He’s not your typical high profile restaurant owner, trying to hype the trendy scene or emptying your pockets; Demps is a true pioneer in customer care and satisfaction reminding us of what it feels like to be apart of a community.
Thank you Will Demps and thank you Wet Willies!

If any restaurant understands the importance of customer courtesies and the familiar nuances of a hometown bar, it’s Bully’s East. Located in Mission Valley, it’s easily distinguished throughout the community as a family owned and operated restaurant and bar. Aztec pride runs deep through the history of Bully’s since the opening in 1971.
Famous for their Prime Rib and “Cheers” mentality, Bully’s East serves nothing less than excellence across the board. Exposing a creative presentation in every meal, while having the technique and innovation for new flavors of old favorites is a rare ability. Yet Bully's conquers all doubts and continues to be a front runner in acclaimed hospitality and culinary originality. The labor of love is present in every angle of this restaurant and bar. The serviceability and attitude of the staff is as strong as their savory fare’s and old school cocktails.
Bully’s East is truly a master of all trades hosting specialty dishes like their Spicy Prime Rib Roll- a fun twist on conventional sushi having finely chopped prime rib, black sesame seeds, an au jus sauce paired with a horseradish cream sauce. The Volcano Shrimp dish is absolutely insane with huge fresh shrimp bedded on top of a creamy plate of mashed potatoes, and their secret recipe of a volcano sauce that’s just the right amount of heat. The cuisine allows you to indulge past your normal bodily limits. Everyone there speaks the universal language of good food and kindness; it feels as comfortable as going to Grandma’s for Christmas dinner. The regulars have nicknames and you will always see the manger greeting local partisans by their first names.
The walls are lined with sports memorabilia reminding you of the good company you are in. Bully’s East has the accessibility (free parking and lots of it) and close proximity to QUALCOMM Stadium -the ideal location for a little pre-game before the tailgate.
Bully’s provides daily specials, and a monthly beer special on top of their Happy Hour. Their happy hour is Monday-Friday from 4:40-7:00pm as well as 10:00pm-12:15am with $2.50 Domestics, $3.50 Well Drinks, $5 Jacob’s Creek Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay and Discounted Appetizers. Daily specials include Kids eat free on Sunday, $7.95 Burgers and a Budweiser/Bud Light on Mondays, and $2 Fish Taco Tuesdays.
Bully's is a landmark of tradition and expertise that will always be the go to neighborhood bar.
